After the storm

We left the house to take this photo just outside our door, but didn't go much further. The rain's been falling so hard in the last few days that many houses around Temuco have been flooded, and people have had to be evacuated from their homes. In other places of Araucania, the rainfalls triggered mudslides.

Tomorrow, we will be travelling to Puerto Saavedra, which is on the coast, 100km west of Temuco. Puerto Saavedra is the town in which our host was raised, and we will be celebrating We Tripantu there with her community. We both feel extremely fortunate to be able to attend these celebrations, and are very grateful to Jacqueline for bringing us to her community as guests. She made it clear to us that we could not take photos of the event, as this would be lacking respect for its organisers, and the people taking part. Nonetheless, we look forward to capturing shots of the rugged Pacific coastline.
