This summer, we'll be staying in Chile for 6 weeks, and two of those will be spent living in the city of Temuco. There, we aim to understand more about the culture and language of the Mapuche, who are indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile and southwestern Argentina. On this blog, we'll be posting loads of stuff like articles, interviews, personal anecdotes and photos of our trip. We would love to be able to give as much visibility as possible to the project, and share our experiences.
Since this project is related to our studies, our focus is primarily linguistic. As such, it's likely you'll find on this page a lot of language-related jargon that you may not be familiar with (or care about!). Nonetheless, we hope to be able to provide content that is relevant and enjoyable for everyone, whether you're just interested in looking at some photos of mountains, or a language fanatic, hoping to find some stuff to read on optional object agreement in the polysynthetic language Mapudungun!
